Thunderbirds Cariboo Cross Country Camp

The Vancouver Thunderbirds Track Club is pleased to offer the second 108 Mile House Cross-Country Camp. Get ready for a great season, with a fun, but challenging week of workouts. Prepare for cross-country season in a relaxed atmosphere, to learn more about cross-country and distance running. To spend time with friends and make friends who enjoy the sport of cross-country running. Graeme Fell will lead and run the camp with the assistance of partner coaches.

Where: 108 Mile House in the Cariboo

The hotel is the Hills Health Ranch, PO Box 26, 108 Mile Ranch, BC Canada, V0K 2Z0 – Tel: 800-668-2233

The hotel sits in the middle of an extensive forest that is excellent for training; with running trails, swimming and fitness room available. 108 Mile lake and trail is also close by. A full breakfast is included each day. All cabins have kitchens and athletes are expected to share cooking and cleaning duties.

When: Sunday, August 21st to Friday, August 26th

Depart from Vancouver at 8am and arrive in 108 Mile House at 2pm. Athletes not traveling from Vancouver are responsible for getting to 108 Mile House at 2pm. Sunday departure will be at 10:00am, with a scheduled return to Vancouver at 4pm.

What: The cost of the camp includes travel, accommodation, breakfast each day and two group workouts per day and individual consultation on training. Each day will involve two sessions of a mixture of trail and hill running, together with stretching, core, swimming and leisure activities such as volleyball.

How: In order to secure your spot (maximum of 30 spots are available) you must complete the application and ensure that it is received with payment by Wednesday, August 4th.  Cost to those traveling from Vancouver is $600. Cost to those making their own way to the camp is $525. Cheques should be made payable to the Vancouver Thunderbirds Track Club. Payments are fully refundable up until August 4th. All participants must be BC Athletics members.

2011 Canadian National Endurance Conference

This National Conference will be held December 9 – 11, 2011 at the Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver Airport.

Endurance Pathways: Planning for Success

An outstanding panel of speakers will discuss contemporary endurance training theory and practice from a range of perspectives.  This conference aims to analyze and debate various endurance training systems, programs and approaches to help coaches better understand how to plan and develop successful endurance performances.

Alberto Salazar
Alberto Salazar is the Head Coach of the Nike Oregon Project in Portland, Oregon.  Formerly the world-record holder in the Marathon, Salazar is known for his innovative and cutting-edge approach to athlete development.  Focused on producing Olympic-caliber athletes, Salazar’s current list of runners includes Galen Rupp. Kara Goucher, Mo Farah, Amy Yoder Begley, and Dathan Ritzenhein.

Margo Jennings
Margo Jennings’s 30 year coaching career saw her bring two athletes to the pinnacle of success.  At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Maria Mutola won Gold in the 800m and in 2004 at the Athens Olympics Kelly Holmes won Gold in the 800m and 1500m.  Currently retired from coaching, Jennings continues to mentor and advise athletes and coaches in the UK, Australia, Mozambique, New Zealand and the USA.

James Li
James Li is the Head Coach of Cross Country and Associate Head Coach of Track and Field at the University of Arizona.  He has coached multiple NCAA Championships and All-Americans.  He currently coaches Bernard Lagat, arguably the United States’ greatest ever distance runner.  Li has earned numerous coaching awards and speaks frequently at coaching clinics across the world.

Track and Field Officials Training

April 27, 2011

South Fraser, Langley Mustangs, and Coquitlam Cheetahs Track and Field Clubs present a series of free training sessions for beginner “Field of Play” officials.  This series is sanctioned by BC Athletics, and recognized as part of the Athletics Canada National training program for Officials. New officials will work with experienced judges, umpires and starters at sanctioned age class meets in the Lower Mainland, and qualify for team selection for the Harry Jerome, and other Championship level events in BC. Opportunities are available in the Youth (13-17) and Adult categories. Instructors are International level officials, certified as trainers by Athletics Canada.

Training sessions

The June 11 and June 18 sessions are repeats of the May 21 session. Officials attend only one of the three.

Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif is an annual conference organized by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) that fosters the development of Canada as a leading sport nation and reinforces CAC’s role in achieving that goal. The 2010 conference was held in Ottawa, November 18-21.

One of the world’s premier annual conferences for sport leaders, over 750 coaches, sport administrators, coach educators, and sport scientists convened for several days of learning, networking, and celebrating achievements.

IGNITE Athlete Development Program

Canadian Sport Centre Pacific and the network of PacificSport Centres want to ensure you have every advantage you need to compete for your province, and some day, for your country.

The IGNITE Athlete Development Program targets athletes from any sport between the ages of 14-17 with the aim of building COMPLETE CHAMPIONS. Focusing on the elements of athleticism that build a well-rounded foundation based on balance, strength, speed and explosive power, IGNITE ADP will take your game to the next level. 

Five-month programs will be launched January 31, 2011 in Victoria and Vancouver. 

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: DECEMBER 31, 2010

Only 20 athletes per region will be selected each year to train with CSC Pacific and PacificSport’s world renowned experts three times weekly outside of school hours  (20 athletes per region, 10 athletes per training group). Sessions are designed to enhance motor skills, physical fitness and injury resistance, ensuring physical competencies are developed in age and stage appropriate programs. 

The First five-month IGNITE Athlete Development Program will run three times weekly from January 31-June 30, 2011, building on the foundations of athleticism and long term athlete development through elements of gymnastics, track & field and strength & conditioning.

The CSC Pacific/PacificSport Athlete Advance is an annual gathering of athletes and professionals aimed at educating and inspiring BC’s future Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship athletes. Participants will have the opportunity to access practical workshops and seminars on topics that are relevant to the high performance athlete. Innovative and interactive sessions will be presented by expert professionals in their respective fields.

Where: 108 Mile House in the Cariboo. The hotel is the 108 Mile Resort – 4816 Telqua Dr, Cariboo, BC V0K Canada – Tel (250) 791-5211. The hotel sits close to 108 Mile Lake that provides running trails, swimming and boating. The adjacent area is covered with forested trails and is excellent for training. The hotel provides a complimentary continental breakfast. All rooms have kitchens and athletes are expected to share cooking and cleaning duties.

As the Sport BC Power of Sport Tour travels to Langley in April, so will Run Jump Throw. Starting things off is a RJT Community Workshop in Langley on Saturday, April 17th. The workshop will take place in the Willoughby Community Centre Rm #2 at the Langley Events Centre on 200th Street.

This 8 hour course includes how RJT fits in with general athletic development, the analysis of each skill and its technical progressions, the basic biomechanics of running, jumping and throwing, safety issues, RJT lesson plans, fun and games with RJT application and practical teaching and learning with kids!

After this fun filled day, you will be fully prepared to run your very own Run Jump Throw sessions with kids in your community.

Winter 2009/2010 Road Running Performance Clinics

WHEN

  • Wednesday nights starting October 21st or January 5th through to April 14, 2010
  • Drop-in: on any of the above dates

WHERE

  • Brockton Oval, Stanley Park

FOR

  • Runners who wish to improve their running fitness level and their performance. Each runner will train in a small group with a run leader, under the direction of the clinic professional coach, John Hill.
  • This clinic is for runners already comfortable at running 25 to 30 miles per week. Pace does not matter, whether you are a 5 minute miler or a 10 minute miler.

INCLUDES

  • A formal interval training session every Wednesday night.
  • An optional training session once a week may be arranged with the running group (day and time to be determined by the group).
  • Personal consultation with John Hill.
  • A day-to-day training schedule.
  • Self monitoring weekly training diary.
  • An atmosphere of running fun and camaraderie (groups are not competitive but mutually supportive).
