Chewning appointed as new Head Coach for Speed and Power for Vancouver Thunderbirds

The Vancouver Thunderbirds are pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Chewning as the Head Coach power/speed effective September 1, 2014

Mary will be replacing Derrick Johnston who has been with the club for the past year, and now is moving to Eastern Canada to pursue other coaching goals.

For the past 7 years Mary has held coaching positions at Ocean Athletics and several high Schools in the South SUrrey area in hurdles, jumps abd sprints. She has been the Head Coach, Sprints and Hurdles at Ocean Athletics for over a year and has recently been apoointed Head Coach Sprints and Hurdles at the University of British Columbia. During her time at Ocean she coached athletes to represent Team BC at National Championships and Canada Summer Games, as well as Team Canada for the World Youth Games.

Mary is an Athletics Canada certified Perforamnce Coach (formely Level 3) and will be responsible for power/speed athletes from Grade 8 and upwards.
