Lyon, France – Another big day for Team Canada in Lyon, France as Michelle Stilwell of Nanoose Bay, B.C., won gold at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championship in a World Record time while Ilana Dupont of Clarenceville, Que., won bronze. Three Canadian Records were also established on day six of the IPC Athletics World Championship.
The day got off to a hot start for Canada with a World Record and gold medal performance by Michelle Stilwell in the women’s T52 wheelchair classification 800-metres. “Fantastic!” Stilwell exclaimed. “I had so much pleasure while racing. I couldn’t have dreamt better, a World Record and a gold medal. This is a very good start to the day for Canada!” Her time of 2:14.79 bested the previous World record of 2:16.71 set in 2005 by Canadian Lisa Franks.
