Chris Winter of Vancouver and Speed River Track and Field Club West, specializes in the 3000 metre steeplechase event. Sunday, in preparation for the 2013 IAAF World Track and Field Championships he registered a win at the Savo Games in Lapinlahti, Finland. Winter ran a season’s best performance of 8 minutes 28.92 seconds to secure the victory as Taylor Milne finished third in 8 minutes and 39.86. “This race my training partner Alex Genest helped pace me as a tune up for his race in London next weekend. He went 2km and at that point I had a solid gap on the rest of the field. I just had to run tough over the final kilometre and had a good finish. I am pleased with the result and looking forward to Moscow!” said a please Winter.
The event is Winter’s second-to-final steeplechase before next month’s World Championships in Moscow, Russia, “I have been confirmed for the London Diamond League meet this Saturday in the Steeplechase. Also running are Alex Genest and Matt Hughes of Canada. Should be a great race! Very excited to be running in last years Olympic stadium,” said Winter.
Winter was scheduled to run in Belgium in a 1500, an under-distance event for him, however, his race on Sunday provided him with the opportunity to race the steeple again. “This past weekends steeple was my second fastest in my life and only the second time I’ve gone under 8:30, I am pleased with my time and thrilled to have been invited to compete in the London Diamond League Meet.”
