Natasha Fraser added another provincial title to her resume at The Vancouver Sun Run. After surprisingly missing out on the 5K Championship last month, she successfully defended her 10K title, to add to the Half Marathon Championship in February. Leading the race after Ontario’s Dayna Pidhoresky dropped out, Fraser was never in serious danger for the BC Championship, winning outright in 34:13, for an additional $200 in race winnings. Top master Marilyn Arsenault ran a PB for fourth place overall, and second BC, in 35:04. And Anne-Marie Madden completed the Championship placings in 35:12.
The mens championship was a much closer contest. While none of the championship contenders were able to go with the pace set by the overall race winners, a number of young BC athletes staged their own battle in the chase pack. Sam Pawluk ran out the eventual BC Champion in 30:56. Close behind was 5K Champion Kevin Friesen in 31:00. And even closer in third was Ben Thistlewood in 31:01.
