Track and Field Officials Training

South Fraser, Langley Mustangs, and Coquitlam Cheetahs Track and Field Clubs present a series of free training sessions for beginner “Field of Play” officials.  This series is sanctioned by BC Athletics, and recognized as part of the Athletics Canada National training program for Officials. New officials will work with experienced judges, umpires and starters at sanctioned age class meets in the Lower Mainland, and qualify for team selection for the Harry Jerome, and other Championship level events in BC. Opportunities are available in the Youth (13-17) and Adult categories. Instructors are International level officials, certified as trainers by Athletics Canada.

Training sessions

The June 11 and June 18 sessions are repeats of the May 21 session. Officials attend only one of the three.

Saturday, May 21  -Start at 1130 am.  Bear Creek Park, Surrey

Saturday, June 11  12 pm (noon) to 2 pm. Percy Perry Track, Coquitlam

Saturday, June 18 12 pm (noon) to 2 pm. McLeod Park Stadium, Langley

Sport Development Workshops – Victoria, Nanaimo & Surrey

2010 Legacies Now in cooperation with local partners presents a series of Workshops featuring Dr. Steve Norris, aimed at administrators, coaches and parents.

Does our sport system make kids healthier? Does it provide positive experiences and outcomes for kids? What is the purpose of age group sports? These are just a few of the questions that will be raised and discussed in a thought provoking presentation by Dr. Stephen Norris. Dr. Norris is a member of the expert group that developed the new framework for sport in Canada called Canadian Sport for Life. This framework provides a new and innovative approach to the design and delivery of sport and physical activity.

Dr. Norris will review sport delivery in Canada and touch on issues such as better use of facilities, improving outcomes for athletes and the role of recreation departments and schools in the delivery of sport.
