Please note that there was an error in the “Anti-Doping Update” that was distributed on December 15, 2009 – particularly in reference to paragraph 5 regarding the medication ‘Sybmicort.’ The correct information is listed below and attached:
Symbicort contains formoterol (as well as the corticosteroid budesonide) and therefore its status has not changed and remains as a prohibited substance for athletes. Athletes who require the use of Symbicort – or any other formulations that contain formoterol – will need to apply for a TUE through the IAAF (international athletes) or CCES (domestic athletes). Please make sure to check all ingredients of your medications on the Global DRO website.
National Team athletes should contact Melissa Dowling if any questions arise. Athletes are responsible for what is found in their bodies and violations of the anti-doping rules can result in serious sanctions and other consequences.
Sincerely,
Melissa Dowling (mdowling@athletics.ca)
