Jack Taunton – Athlete, Builder, Sports Medicine Physician
Athlete:
Marathon Runner: Completed 62 marathons with a best performance of 2:25:29 and countless Road Races
Builder:
- Co-founder with Ivor Davies in 1971 of BC’s first Road Running Club and the naming of the club – Lions Gate Road Runners – which celebrated its 40th Anniversary
- Founding member in 1971 of the Vancouver Marathon / Vancouver International Marathon
- Co-founder with Doug and Diane Clement (Achilles Int’l T&F Society) of the Vancouver Sun Run in 1985
- Instrumental in taking long distance running to the masses and the promotion of Women’s Running
- Helped found and organize the James Cunningham Seawall Race in 1970
- A Lifetime Member of Lions Gate Road Runners – Jack helped organize 5, 10, 15 and 20 mile Road Races in Stanley Park in the 1970’s.
Sports Medicine Physician:
- Co-founder with Dr Doug Clement of the Terra Nova Sports Medicine Clinic 1977, Vancouver’s first Sports Medicine Clinic – as part of their family practice in Richmond.
- Co-founder with Dr Doug Clement of the UBC Allen McGavin Sports Medicine Centre
- Professor, Faculty of Medicine and School of Kinesiology, UBC
