Two Mount Douglas secondary girls set records at the Vancouver Island Track & Field Championships at UVic’s Centennial Stadium produced new records last week.
The most outstanding female performance went to Hannah Swift of Mt. Doug for setting a pole vault record, clearing 3.60 metres.
Mt. Doug’s Kaitlyn Hayward was named most inspirational athlete for a new record in the 1,500m steeplechase (five minutes and six seconds) and wins in the 1,500m and 3,000m runs.
Lambrick Park’s Adam Keenan nearly broke the record in the hammer and discus to earn most outstanding male performance.
The top three finishers in each event qualified for the upcoming B.C. School Sport championships at Swanguard Stadium, June 2-5.
