Sooke River 10K

Melissa Ross scored her first ever victory in an Frontrunners Island Series race, and in so doing recorded the fastest 10k by a BC woman on a certified course so far this year. She beat Care Wakely, winner of the Comox Valley Half, 37:44 to 37:49. Third place was taken by Erin Burrett in 38:20.

Mark Nelson also notched his first-ever  Frontrunners Island Series victory by sprinting away from teammates, Nick Walker and Shawn Nelson and Simon-Pierre Landry to capture the Sooke River 10K win in 33:25. Nick was second in 33:29, Simon-Pierre third in 33:30 and Shawn fourth in 33:36.

Maurice Tarrant won his 7th consecutive M80 division this year in 50:56, breaking Ron Welch’s Sooke River 10K course record by 5 minutes, 48 seconds, and establishing another unofficial Canadian age record.

The Sooke River 10K saw its highest registrations and highest finishers ever (415).
