Simon Bairu 13th at World Cross Country Championships

Seven time Canadian cross country champion Simon Bairu showed that he is one of the best in the world at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. His 13th place finish is the best individual result by a Canadian in the Senior race for many years. And his time of 33:44 for the tough 12km course, left him only 44 seconds behind the winner in a race dominated by East African runners.

In the Junior Men’s 8km Championship, BC’s representatives also performed extremely well. Luc Bruchet (Ocean Athletics and UBC) and Dylan Haight (Pacific Athletics and UVic) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively for the Canadian team that finished 11th. Sam Walkow (Ocean Athletics) had a harder time in the Junior Women’s 6km Championship, but still helped Canada to an 8th place team placing.
